James Herriot had his veterinary surgery in Thirsk and worked in the surrounding area, now known as Herriot Country. The Georgian market towns of Bedale, Easingwold, Northallerton, Thirsk and Stokesley all have their own unique character and personality; market days are still held on a regular basis.
Herriot Country provides an excellent central base for touring the area, nestling between the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North Yorkshire Moors.
